What is Diverticulitis?

FRIDAY FOCUS:  Good News For Diverticulitis Sufferers… read on!

So, what exactly is Diverticulitis and how can it be cured?

More than one third of people over 45 years of age, and two thirds of people over 85 years of age have some diverticular disease, or ‘diverticulosis’.

Diverticulitis (DV) is a painful and annoying disorder causing cramping, bloating and sometimes severe local pain in the lower stomach.  DV is just one of the handful of names given to inflammatory disorders of the lower intestinal tract and happens when diverticula or “pockets” develop in the colon, especially the sigmoid area.

People with DV often have low-fibre diets and poor protein absorption.  In other words, unprocessed protein (meat and dairy) gets stuck in the ‘pouches’… starts to rot… and the ensuing presence of bacteria causes painful inflammation and irritation.

Western countries where the diets are high in animal proteins and processed foods, report the greater incidence of DV.  Africa has the lowest recorded incidence because diets are higher in fibre.

Did you know?  Meat protein takes 72 hours to break down and move through the system – and that’s when the body is working properly!

All major health agencies and DV websites recommend an increase in the levels of green plant-based food.  The Dieticians Association of Australia recommend introducing more fruit and vegetables to your diet and recommends leaving skins on and seeds in.  Whilst that is good, the recommendation overlooks ‘the cause’ which almost always leads back to the gut function or ‘lack’ of function as the the case may be.

This is what happened to me!

In my own case, I was in and out of vegetarianism for much of my life, so I had the high fibre but I also still had the DV.  Why?  To put it in layman’s terms, my digestive metabolism was functioning at next to zero, so proteins, namely meat and dairy, weren’t being broken down appropriately.

Then, by the force of gravity, these unprocessed ‘proteins’ dropped into my lower intestine and became lodged in the ‘pockets or pouches’.  This unprocessed food becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, which causes the inflammation and abdominal pain.

BUT HERE’S THE GOOD NEWS! – The solution is easy.

fresh fruit & vegetables help heal diverticulitis

Put simply, a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables will help heal DV

  1. Eat more fruit for breakfast so that the fibre and enzymes in the fruit can contribute to more efficient bowel movements.
  2. Introduce more uncooked whole greens, reds, yellows and orange coloured vegetables to your daily intake. Learning to prepare beautiful plant based recipes will not only inspire you but also send the ‘gut pain’ packing.
  3. Add some green papaya powder (GPP) after your food intake, which will assist in breaking down ALL proteins whether they continue to be animal, vegetable or fruit.  The papain enzyme in the GPP is proteolytic in nature which means it is
  • ‘protein hungry’ and will immediately get to work to relieve the pressure on the digestive function
  • strengthen the gut muscle
  • contribute to the production of a healthy chyme (macerated liquid foods)
  • increase absorption which occurs in the small intestine and ensures ALL by-waste has an opportunity to flow freely from your body during your daily bowel movements.

Knowledge is King!

Once I had the knowledge, I found the process of self-healing DV straight-forward and second nature for me, and now I can say I am free of DV attacks (and the very painful symptons which really did feel like an attack on my body).

Despite the odd niggle when I eat grapes with seeds in the them, I enjoy seedless grapes when I can.  I also have chosen NOT to eat animal products of any nature, nor do I eat processed foods or sugar.

Literally a life saver!

If you would like to begin to enjoy a healthy and pain free lifestyle then READ UP on the benefits of Green Papaya PowderI am convinced it literally saved my life.

If you, or someone you know, is suffering from this condition, please share this information with them and encourage them to make some adjustments to their current diet.  Unless we take responsibility for our own healing, humanity will continue on this downward spiral to ill health and early demise.

Feel free to ask a question or leave a comment in the box below.  I’m keen to engage in dialogue about this and many other debilitating diseases that can be healed quickly and easily.  If you disagree, tell me why!

  1. Hi Scott, my name is .cindie and I too suffer from DV :(. I’ve had 3fareuos since 09 recently in 12/15 that kept me in the hospital for 7days. I was curious what bought thus flare up on knowing I watch what I eat? The Doc asked me what I basically eat, I told him I drink an all Nat. Whey protein shake along w/special K cereal or crisp oatmeal w/fruit,lunch I drink another shake, sliced apples w/peanutbutter ( whipped ) I eat grn beans 2x’s a wk. now the Doc tells me I can’t eat apples unless they’re cooked and w /o the peelings and no grn beans. I can’t eat any grn Vegs at all :((((. No popcorn, seeded foods , pork…. I was wondering if I could eat seedless grapes? It’s really hard to finding something to eat when one has thus condition. Especially since I’ve been keeping my weight down after losing 104lbs that’s takened me 8yrs to do and need to lose another 50…. You have any advice? Ill be waiting to hear but from you. Thanks, Cindie

    • Hi Cindie, Eating with the rhythm of the day. 4:00am to midday is the time for elimination so I eat just fruit and nuts for breakfast.
At lunch I eat any one of the dishes from my Let’s Eat RAW Recipe book. I can highly recommend this to you. 12:00 until 8:00pm is ingestion, digestion and absorption. Beautiful green live food for lunch. I do not take any animal products into my body let alone why powder which, despite the hype, is poisonous for the body. By dropping meat, wheat and dairy you will shed more weight and begin to feel so much better in your body. 8:00pm to 4:00am is the time for fasting (sleeping) so take a light snack in the evening. I would also highly recommend kick starting your digestive function again because based on what you are sharing, like me, you’d be having difficulty breaking proteins down because of a slow gut function. I used my beloved green papaya powder to 100% heal myself of a range of issues. Here is the link to the shop page on my website ; you will see the green papaya and the book. Remember too that processed foods have no life in them at all. https://scottmathiasraw.com/shop/ If you have any further queries please feel free to ask. Cheers now Scott
