The Basics of Baccarat

Baccarat

Baccarat is a popular casino game which is usually played on a large table with a dealer and up to 12 players. The game has a very high reputation in Asia and is well known all over the world for its glamorous look and sophisticated rules. The game was traditionally played in offline casinos, but has since been adapted for online play.

The goal of baccarat is to place a bet on which hand will come closest to nine without going over. Each hand is dealt two cards and the player or banker will then make a decision on how to proceed. There are five types of bets in baccarat, namely, the Player’s Bet, Banker’s Bet, Tie Bet, Super Six Bet and Pair Bet. Each of these bets pays out different amounts depending on the outcome of the hand.

Once all the bets have been placed the dealer will deal one card in the Player’s box and then another card in the Banker’s box. If the Player or Banker’s hand has the highest total, you win that round. If the total is equal, you will then have to decide whether or not a third card should be drawn.

When a hand is close to nine, it is often referred to as a “natural” and no third card will be drawn. When a hand totals zero or is closer to 9, it is referred to as a “carte” and the banker will draw a third card if necessary. However, if the player’s total is 8 or 9, it is a “non” and no third card will be drawn.

If the Banker’s hand wins you will be eligible for a 1 to 1 payout, but you must pay a 5% commission to the house on your winnings. This will reduce your odds of winning to 19 to 20. If you bet on the Tie and win, you will receive a payout of 8 to 1.

There are also several side bets available in Baccarat which can increase your winnings. These bets are optional and can be placed alongside your initial bet. These bets include the Super Six Bet, which rewards you if the Banker’s hand wins with 6 points. The other bet is the Pair Bet, which pays out if you place your bet on either the Banker or Player pair of cards. These bets are not guaranteed to win, but they can add up quickly if you are lucky enough. These bets are typically available at live baccarat tables as well as online baccarat games. However, they can be risky if you do not understand the game’s rules and strategy. Therefore, they are best avoided by new players.
