Is there such a thing as ‘Public Food Policy’? NO, but there is agricultural policy usually based on the four key food categories which are now killing people. Meat, Wheat, Dairy and Sugar !!! These four food categories are now costing more in ‘chronic illness after consumption’ than the financial benefits derived from these farming practices per se.

The agricultural sector, at farm-gate, contributes 3 percent to Australia’s total gross domestic product (GDP). The gross value of Australian farm production in 2010-11 was $48.7 billion. Compare this figure with that of the total estimated cost of health care and you will be amazed.

In the 2010/11 year healthcare costs rose 6.5% to a staggering $130.3 billion which is nearly $5800 per head of population for the year.  Now someone must be speeding a lot of my share on health care because I spend nothing, zilch, ZERO.

What I am suggesting here is our highly enlightened policy makers might well start examining an outmoded agricultural policy – a policy largely imported from the ‘motherland’ and based on the agrarian ideologies from another era.  In essence, a largely WASP – ‘White Anglo Saxon Protestant’ nutritional matrix was transported to Australia and policies created based on what was dished up back in the UK. Well this is Australia, a land of potentially plenty of food not just for its inhabitants but also for the rest of the world; a land capable growing a myriad of ‘health giving foods’ which promote life and not death.

As I explain in my book ‘Understanding the Divine Gut’, the cost to the land of these outdated agriculture industries and practices associated with them is also mind boggling.  Here are some points our elected representatives might like to ponder if not for now, but also for the health of future generations.

1. More people are suffering from chronic illness as a result of unprocessed proteins becoming stuck and rotting in the body.  These proteins are largely made up of decaying meat and dairy products.  The country is over proteinised and under fiberised.  The measurable health consequences are nothing short of tragic.  I would like to know what part of the 6.5% increase in health costs was as a result of chronic digestive disorders?

2. More people are suffering from wheat intolerances because of hybridisation since the 1950’s in order to promote ‘greater yield’ per hectare, thus more $$$ for the farmers. The wheat germ has in effect become corrupted, yielding no benefits whatsoever to the body.  Gluten intolerance numbers have skyrocketed in the last decade.  Why ?

3. More people are developing ‘sugar based cancer emergence’ due to higher levels of bio-acidity as a result of an over consumption of white refined sugar also known as ‘White Death’.  It’s a known fact that the cancer fungus loves an acidic body as opposed to an alkaline body in which it struggles to gain a foothold.

Agricultural diversification has to be taught allaying any fears about the process of change.  I will address some alternatives such as more plant protein based cropping in the next blog piece. In the meantime I invite you to sit with the figures I have shared and ask yourself where you fit into this dead-end scenario and how you can change things now.

In conclusion, I will make a prediction.  The writing is on the wall for large scale animal production and whilst the sickness industry is expanding in one direction, I forecast it’s demise in good time too.  Why?  More people are taking their own health in hand by NOT eating meat, wheat, dairy and sugar products.  Each weekend and through my classes, I meet excited people as they embrace the process of change within themselves.  The customer will decide the fate ultimately but wouldn’t it be great if the politicians had enough vision and courage to instigate change so that many of the nearly 400,000 people involved in the Australian farming sector could feel good about their contribution to the health of the nation.  While there are other so-called ‘hot potatoes’ being handed around, how about more dialogue on something even more important ?  For more info on ‘White Death’ I suggest you watch this 2012 documentary from the BBC.  The Men Who Made Us Fat

In my book ‘ Understanding The Divine Gut’ I talk about the way the ‘Protein Story’ has been hijacked by the meat and dairy industries. ‘Hi-Jacked’ being the operative word because most people have been so brain-washed by the unstinting PR,  they think they can only get food protein from animals. THIS IS A LIE and if you believe it then you too have been sucked in badly.

Here are several plant based foods I use which deliver more simple and easy to digest proteins without the need to slaughter an animal or contribute to its ongoing and daily suffering.

Hemp – Cannabis Sativa up to 35g/100g or up 35% protein

High in Omegas 3, 6 & 9’s – Vitamins and trace minerals. A complete food and ideal for RAW Vegans or those who can no longer breakdown ‘old world animal based proteins’.
While food grade hemp is a cousin of the high THC version it still contains comparative and amazing healing qualities in the seed, powder and oil form.

Hemp is an ideal protein for dairy and meat intolerant children and animals.

I especially love Hemp’s amazing list (too long to list here) of amino acids especially arginine for maintaining heart health. Tryptophan for keeping your nervous system in top condition.

Kale – Brassica oleracea up to 10g/100g or up to 10% protein

Kale’s risk-lowering benefits for cancer have recently been extended to at least five different types of cancer. These types include cancer of the bladder, breast, colon, ovary, and prostate. Isothiocyanates (ITCs) made from glucosinolates in kale play a primary role in achieving these risk-lowering benefits.

Moringa Oleifera is among the popular power greens such as wheat grass, chlorella and spirulina. Moringa is rich in minerals like potassium, iron, calcium, and sulfur. It has B vitamins and 10 amino acids. Its nutritional profile is competitive with any beneficial plant on the planet.

For example:

One half cup of cooked leaves will meet your daily recommendation for Vitamins A and C.
  •   12 gms of raw leaves contains the recommended daily amount of Vitamin C
  •   Gram per gram it contains 6 to 7 times the amount of Vitamin C in orange juice.
  •   Moringa leaves contain 3 to 5 times more beta-carotene than carrots

Not bad for a humble plant also known as the ‘Miracle Tree’.

Eating animals has negative consequences for the planet none the least the amount of water and grain used to feed them just for slaughter whereas a plant will keep growing and supplying leaves for ongoing use.  Meat and dairy products have been shown to ‘rot’ in the intestinal tract causing a range of inflammatory disorders and contributing to the emergence of cancer cells in the bloodstream.

Now if I hear the meat and dairy industries crying fowl I will simply puke !!!!!

I can say to them the warning signs are here now as more and more people turn away from those ‘old world proteins’ for personal and planetary reasons. To the meat and dairy farmers I would say this… “You are genuine people but your system of food production is outmoded and I, and millions of others, strongly urge you to start considering diversification into these new and liberating crops. In Australia nearly 70,000 people suffer from avoidable cardiac disease each year with a combined cost of more than $6billon dollars. Let me say again… Heart issues are all symptoms of poor diet and lifestyle.  Check your gut function out!  Make sure the ‘engine room’ is working properly so you can derive all the solar energy from the food you eat, all the nutrients and trace minerals which support YOUR LIFE.  I use Green Papaya Powder and it works a treat when things in the gut metabolism are out of whack.  In fact, it enabled me to totally heal myself of a dysfunctional gut which if not addressed,  would have led to a complete breakdown in body functions.  Sooner or later I would have succumbed.

In 2004-05, 18% (approximately 3.5 million) of Australians reported having a long-term cardiovascular condition. The most common cardiovascular condition was hypertension (high blood pressure), reported by 11% (2.1 million).  The proportion reporting heart, stroke or vascular conditions was 3.8% of the Australian population.  Of those reporting heart, stroke and vascular conditions, 28% reported having angina, 20% an other ischemic heart disease, 12% a cerebrovascular disease, 35% oedema and heart failure and 27% reported having a disease of the arteries, arterioles and capillaries.

A delicious raw/vegan alternative GARLIC MAYONNAISE
Cuisine: Raw Vegan Recipe
Ingredients
  • 1 Cup Cashew Nuts (Soak the nuts overnight and pour off the soaking water before blending)
  • 1 Cup of Water
  • 3 Cloves of Garlic
  • Juice of 1 Lime
  • Good Splash of Olive Oil
  • ½ Tsp Desert Salt
  • 1 Good Grind of Pepper
Instructions
  1. Blend all the above but hold back on some of the water and add to the composition as you go so you can arrive at a mayo consistency.
  2. This will last a week or so in the fridge in a sealed jar. It's very handy to give your favourite salad an added zing!!

 

I cannot help wondering if the proponents of this current global pandemic of fruit and vegetable juicing aren’t missing a trick and are innocently contributing to greater planetary digestive trauma.

90% of the digestion process starts in the mouth with the introduction of acids and enzymes via our saliva.  Now when you put together a ‘high impact’ juice filled with perhaps 6-8 vegetables along with wheat grass, barley grass, spirulina, as well as a veritable cocktail of fashionable South American plant and fruit powders, I hear alarm bells whistling in my digestive tract.

How can the gut function be operating at 100% when all this nutritional data is unleashed in to the digestive computer at once ?

My opinion is simple. The gut cannot cope. Do you know how I know ? I am approached by people all the time who say they are ‘doing the juice thing’ yet they are suffering from bloating, reflux, heart burn and indigestion. I have personal experience of this too. When I juiced, the liquid would flow straight through me. NO FIBRE and HIGH LEVELS of vegetable and fruit fructose in the juice traumatised my digestive tract.

So what IS happening ? If 9/10’s of the digestive process starts in the mouth then this juice is dropping straight into the gut without any pre-processing thus putting the gut function under tremendous stress. Add to this the fact that as much as 80% of all fibre is removed from the fruit and vegetables during the juicing process, then another issue arises. Fibre is required to aid in the removal of ‘bad bacteria’ from the colon wall. How then can you cleanse your colon appropriately if you are not taking all the natural fibre into your system ?

Yes I agree there maybe some benefits from juicing, but for the fibre reason and a personal desire to take in 100% whole food, I do a 3-4 fruit and/or 1 vegetable smoothie in the morning before anything else. I take my time with each mouthful giving it a good 10 seconds in the mouth so that enzymes and acids can do their work before it drops into my gut.

By the way I do NOT advocate any whey based proteins in the morning. Enzymes in the fruit set off the bowel so elimination of ‘yesterday’s ‘ waste can commence with a degree of ease. Between 4.00am and 11.00am is when the body eliminates and all the body’s energies and effort are put into that process. I begin to eat after 11am and as a RAW Vegan my protein comes from greens and hemp mostly, although I have to say there IS protein in all fruits or vegetables. But that’s another story surrounding the lie of the great ‘protein bogey man’.

Please take a moment to think this through and if necessary begin to simplify your ‘liquid breakfast’. Your gut will thank you!! During my RAW food classes I often talk about the quality of the body’s fluids. You know, all the ‘good juice’ the body produces to keep things like the brain fed – cranial fluid in which your cerebellum resides.

Morning Seasonal Fruit Smoothy

My favourite nutrient rich fruit smoothy breakfast!!

I begin by clearly stating that EVERYTHING you eat becomes your blood then there are a variety of ‘filtering systems’ in the blood which purifies, blends and ‘scrubs’ nutrients to make a form of plasma-like fluid which feeds those parts of the body which require really high quality nutrient-rich food. All this happens literally within minutes of the food entering the body.

If the digestive metabolism spends much of its operating time in a state of trauma because the food ‘ raw material’ is sub-optimal then the rest of the absorption and distribution process is totally compromised. What ends up as ‘brain food’ could be filled with phosphoric acid from the soda pop, fat and sugars from the hamburger, grease from the fish and chips or high levels of acid from ‘unprocessed proteins’ which stick to the insides of the intestinal tract in a continual state of rot and decay.

There is LIFE in RAW food. I say it’s not about limitation its about LIBERATION!! These RAW nut based cheeses contain no sugar or dairy and use only live ingredients. My recent class guests just loved them along with an amazing Tomato and Pineapple Relish and an oil-free Basil Pesto.

In recent days we have heard horrific stories about people choosing to remove body parts before they become infected with cancer rather than experience even the ‘potential for disease’. Just beggars belief that someone would be so detached from their body and soul to even consider something like removing breasts.

The latest act of insanity is men deciding to hack out their prostates for fear of cancer.

Guys, once your prostate is gone you will NEVER ever be able to ejaculate again. Gone. Finito. Kaput!!

So what about a Preemptive diet? Ignorance is no longer an excuse for chronic illness.

Proper diet is the answer for both breast and prostate health.

The prostate cavity is a repository for acid build-up arising from eating sub-optimal food, hence rising PSA levels as the tiny gland gasps for life.

A RAW plant-based diet reverses the acid content contained in the cavity which feeds the gland.

Last night, I made RAW Spaghetti and No-meatballs. They were so authentically true in appearance and taste to the wheat and animal based version that you’d have to have lost all your senses to detect a difference. This was 100% miraculously RAW with the same tastes and sensual responses one might have with the ‘old form’.

I guess this is what is called the ‘darkness before the dawn’ in ‘understanding and awareness’. Perhaps the old scientific maxim ‘latent heat of fusion’ – it always gets colder before the ice melts or the sun rises. The darkness in this case is unimaginable levels of pure ignorance which to those of us practicing awareness find totally unfathomable.

I highly recommend a ‘preemptive diet’ over an act of personal biological medi-piracy. It’s easy and shows great personal responsibility, as opposed to be just being plain bloody dumb.

RAW Vegan Food. Pre-Emptive Diet over Preemptive Surgery!!

A simple and delicious RAW Vegan alternative to Spaghetti and Meatballs!!
Recipe type: Main
Cuisine: Italian
Serves: 4
Ingredients
For the No Meatballs combine the following
  • 2 large Portobello Mushrooms
  • ½ Red Bell Pepper
  • ½ Red Onion Chopped
  • 1 Cup of Chopped Pumpkin
  • ¼ Cup of Chopped Walnuts
  • ¼ Cup Ground Flax Meal
  • A good Slosh of Shoyu soy sauce
  • A grind of pepper
Tomato Sauce
  • 4 Lge Vine Ripened Tomatoes
  • 1 Cup of Chopped Semi Dried Tomatoes
  • ½ Red Bell Pepper
  • 3 Cloves of Garlic
  • 1 Tsp Dried Oregano
  • 1 Tsp Dried Basil
  • Small Clutch of Fresh Basil
  • Dash of Agave or a Tbsp of Coconut Palm Nectar
  • Dash of Macadamia Oil
  • Salt and Pepper to Taste
Spaghetti
  • 3 Lge Zucchini (peeled)
Instructions
No-Meatballs:
  1. Blend the ingredients in your food processor and add extra Shoyu or sea salt if required to taste. Form into small balls and dehydrate for 3-4 hours on 115F -45C. Set aside until ready to use.
Tomato Sauce:
  1. Blend all the ingredients in your Vitamix or adjust quantities and use your Tribest personal blender.
Spaghetti:
  1. Run zucchini/courgette through your GEFU or tabletop Spiraliser. Add the Juice of a lime to provide a real flavour boost and to soften the texture of the vegetables. Serve into a prep bowl.
  2. Add the Tomato Sauce and as many of the balls as you need to feed you and your guests. Mix everything thoroughly then place in your dehydrator or a warm oven (less than 50C for about 10-15 minutes to warm the mixture through.
  3. Serve onto warm plates and top off with some Nut Parmesan (Macadamia or Brazil Nut fines mixed with Nutritional Yeast and Pepper - make up a jar and always keep handy in your fridge).
In response to a recent share on my SMR Facebook page, I’ve decided to post this very popular Caramel Slice aka Millionaire Shortbread – RAW Vegan Recipe

Quick and easy to make!

Credit must go to the inimitable Lucy Walter and her team at the Raw Food Institute of Australia who inspired my partner Clare to have a go and with a couple of tweaks to the basic recipe, I’d like to present this delicious RAW Caramel Slice (or Millionaire’s Shortbread as it’s commonly known in Clare’s native Scotland)…  enjoy!

A delicious, quick and easy to make dessert that will WOW your tastebuds and have your friends and family calling out for more! GLUTEN-FREE, DAIRY-FREE!!

Serves: 15
Ingredients
Base
  • ½ cup Medjool dates
  • 1 ½ cups almonds
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
Caramel
  • ½ cup tahini
  • ½ cup maple syrup or agave
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • Large pinch Himalayan salt
Chocolate topping
  • 4 tbsp raw cacao
  • 1 tsp carob powder
  • 4 tbsp coconut sugar or agave syrup
  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • Dash of Coconut Cream
Instructions
  1. Grind dates and almonds in a Food Processor.
  2. Add vanilla until sticky and then press into rectangular dish greased in coconut oil.
  3. Blend caramel ingredients together and pour over biscuit base and set in
  4. the freezer for 20 minutes.
  5. While slice is setting, melt coconut oil for chocolate crunch topping and then add all other ingredients and stir well.
  6. Let cool for 5 minutes and then pour topping over slice and place back in freezer to set again.
  7. Cut into small squares to serve. Makes 15
  8. TIP: Line the dish with Glad Wrap/Cling Film instead of coconut oil for easy removal.

The happiness and joy bio-chemical called ‘Serotonin’ is made in the gut. Did you know that?

Right now in Australia, an estimated 7% of the population of 22-million is experiencing some form of depression and as many as 20% are borderline depressives. Official causes put depression down to a range of symptoms NOT causes – bipolar, chemical depression (endogenous) , reactive depression bought about by circumstantial experiences, post-natal and childhood and adolescent depression.

If you have read my book ‘Understanding the Divine Gut’ you will know that I hold some thoughts about the causes of chronic illnesses and that most of them are caused by poor, sub-optimal or just plain bad nutrition. Yet nowhere in official commentary about depression are there nutritionally based solutions. I remain gobsmacked that no-where does food officially have a role in healing the mind of its depressive energy state. So who is in control here?

I have known depression and its immediate and consequential repercussions, and have learned through the years that when the brain is nutritionally deficient it will adopt a depressed state. The first to go are the Serotonin levels, which control the ‘joy levels’ of the mind. Serotonin is produced in the gut. So it goes to say that if your gut is not healthy then chances are you are suffering some form of depression, mild or otherwise.

By eating more clean, green and RAW food your gut will produce all the Serotonin your brain needs and a joyful feeling will ensue. Your mind will be still.

I laugh my heart out sometimes when I see silly wee things emerge from online media about people suffering from seemingly ‘uncontrollable’ conditions like flatulence or farting.

Check this warning out from an American Federal office to one of its workers who just had to ‘let rip’, much to consternation and seeming odorous discomfort of his work colleagues.

You know yourself that you can ‘creep’ a ‘sneaky’ out and go totally undetected. But when you sneak one out and its odour fills your immediate and the ambient space around you, it’s cause for embarrassment if the ‘leak detection’ process leads back to the source – YOU !!

We fart in excess of 14 times a day says the article on this poor fella although personally I don’t count, but will start from today to see if I fit the norm.

There is a solution to excessive farting and that solution begins in the gut. The gas emitting from the lower extremities of the body is a crude form of vegetable and animal methane produced as a result of a dysfunctional gut. Get the gut function back to normal and other symptoms usually associated with farting such as bloating, digestive discomfort and reflux, totally disappear.

Green Papaya for digestive issues

I used Green Papaya Powder which I now process here in Australia. This is a pesticide free Papaya containing the highest levels of Papain – the enzyme which helps to break down food, taking the stress out of the digestive metabolism and setting gut function back into a state of balance. Let me say categorically that this stuff helped heal me of chronic digestive  issues. Winter or summer, water, which makes up more than 70% of the body, is a daily pre-requisite but most people figure that summer or at least the warmer months are when one should take more of this life giving liquid crystal into the body. In fact it’s winter when much of the bio-damage associated with watery dehydration occurs. Suffice to say that daily water consumption maintains life.

During the winter months there is less ambient humidity and more static electricity which the body picks up and conducts around a water starved body. Signs such as dry and irritable skin emerge very quickly and auto-immune indicators such as eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis become exacerbated.

Around this time of year when a lot of food and alcohol is consumed the body is put under a great deal of stress. Most people tend to overlook the need for water because they figure the liquids they are taking into their system are sufficient. Fizzy drinks or soda, as well as coffee, tea, beer, wine and sport drinks are NOT WATER.  Most people I come into contact with are drinking less than 400mls of water each day when the minimum need by the body is 2000 mls.

Dehydration affects the body in so many ways. Firstly it constricts the blood vessels. Many people who do not drink enough water have high blood pressure. Dehydration contributes to the formation of gallstones and is an often occurrence with people who do a lot of flying.  Dehydration also constricts the body’s cells. They literally shrink up and are placed under immense stress. The immune system weakens and the body is prone to disease very quickly. Healthy cells enable nutrients to be ‘shunted’ around the body. Without water nutrients cannot move around the body. When this does not occur a consequence is headaches, sometimes in the form of migraines.

Drinking a min of 2 liters of water daily will help keep your body alive. Also eating lots of fresh green vegetables and seasonal fruits will also augment your water intake at the same time. Find a balance and moderate other non-water fluids all of which might provide short term stimulation but support the emergence of long term illness.

One final note of caution. Find water in your local area which tests out around 6.9 to 7.9pH. Rain water is around 5.9pH but with handling and oxidation as it runs through pipes, out of taps and into classes, pops up to around 6.5 to 6.9pH. The lower the pH the more acidic the water.
There are some waters available which offer as much as 10pH level of alkalinity. These are OK for short term use to bring about an acid alkaline balance within the body but long term use can lead to the opposite of acidosis which is called alkalosis. Symptoms can include irritability, twitching, confusion, and picking at bedclothes. Rapid heart rate, irregular heart beats, and a drop in blood pressure are also symptoms. Severe cases can lead to convulsions and coma.Always seek to balance your body. How you feel is always the indicator.

It’s that time of the year when most folk are inundated with invites to office holiday parties, works’ nights out, big family gatherings, extensive traveling and, while it’s an exciting time of the year, some wonder just how they will get through the amount of food and drink consumed in the lead up to and during their respective festivals.
