Kale, Mibuna & Blood Orange Salad | Scott Mathias Raw

I have just had one of the most enjoyable weekends of my life. It started with a 12 guest RAW vegan dinner party on the Friday night where it was my pleasure, as organiser of the Meet Up group called ‘Noosa RAW Dinner Party Club’, to prepare and serve up an array of beautiful RAW food to a whole bunch of strangers. Needless to say by the end of the evening everyone, including Toasti the dog who roamed beneath the feet of the ‘invited’, had made good friends.

So to this blog’s dishes. Two of my new favs. Kale you already know about, but Mibuna? It’s a Japanese green vegetable which is an ‘easy grow’ in warm to temperate conditions – much like spinach with a mild bitter sweet nutty taste. It grows well where I live, north of Brisbane, Australia. Right now too, Blood Oranges are being harvested. They are the sweetest thing I have ever tasted. So… Kale and Mibuna and Blood Orange and Zucchini Salads. The oranges may not look red but when they are squeezed the juice is beautifully red and so sweet!!

When people come together I like to bring something of myself into the group – something which will help energise the space – and food is the best bet. RAW food is even better because it can either be made on the spot, without pots and pans, or put together as they walk through your front door. Its works every time.

I feel forming community right now is a healthy thing.  There are many interested, single, lonely or ‘new arrivals’ in any town and creating a safe and nurturing space for these folk with a common interest, RAW FOOD, works a treat. Do try something similar, even if it might be a stamp collecting club, and see the amazing results. You will be surprised.

My Sunflower and Hemp seed bread is a ‘people stopper’. It is dehydrated over a period of 18-24hours at no more than 110F so it remains ‘alive. I also love it smeared with one of my home made nut butters too. I have a ‘gut feeling’ we will need to create more community in the near future enabling us to get through some of the changes about to beset the planet. Practice now and when the time comes ‘your community’ will be in place. You never know it might be the difference between food or no food.
